While the Americans were getting down to the business of
putting man on the moon, Eric Haack was getting down to
the business of putting trucks on the road. Back in 1968
Eric also started to set some ground rules with regard to
how he would run his business and they were - get to know
your customers, give them personal, professional and reliable
service and from there, a trucking company was born. Add
to that, Truck Safe Accreditation (Member No. TS/000085)
since 1997, Transitional Fatigue Management, extensive maintenance
schedules and this formula sees Haack's Transport still
operating as a successful Australian family owned business
today.
Eric
started driving at the age of 18 and at 21 began carrying
timber and plywood from North Qld to Sydney and Melbourne.
In 1968 his vehicle was a Ford Thames Trader with single
axle trailer. In 1970 he was one of the first people to
start transporting bananas out of Mission Beach to the Sydney
markets in an open trailer and he is still doing it today,
however now with the latest refrigerated vans riding on
freight and road friendly, air bag suspension.
Haacks
communicate direct to their customers on a personal basis
which enables them to give 100% service. This is why 30
something years down the road, customers like South Pacific
Tyres are still receiving the service they have come to
rely on. Affiliation with the Australian Trucking Association
(ATA) and a member of the Queensland Trucking Association
(QTA), Haacks are dedicated to the safety and reputation
of the trucking industry.
The
company is now focused in three areas:
Orginally
based in Mission Beach, Haacks now operates its depot out
of Tully on the Bruce Highway. Eric, his wife Bev, their
son Brad and other staff members are serving clients from
Cape York to Melbourne and more than a few places in between.
Drivers are "hand picked", risk assessed and trained
to provide the best possible service. They have expanded
into local and general transport by purcahsing Tully
General Carriers which operates out of the same depot
as Haack's Transport.
Vehicle
maintenance programs are monitored very closely and routine
services and repairs are carried out in their workshop.
Other major equipment repairs are contracted out to a specialised
maintenance area. The average age of the fleet equipment
is 2.5 years and by utilising modern technology and new techniques
they can provide their customers with the best possible
service.
Eric
runs local and interstate operations along with the warehousing
service while Brad also attends to seeing things running
smoothly on interstate routes. Bev gets to stay in paradise
and run operations in the office and along with the other
staff, keep the administration wheels turning.
For
in excess of 20 years, Haacks have been carrying premix
concrete for Readymix. Their fleet of 8 Concrete Agitators,
being mainly Kenworth T300's & Volvo FL7's, is one of
the largest privately owned Agitator fleets contracted to
Readymix.
Today Eric's ground rules for the business are still in
place and more than three quarters of their original customers
are still receiving the benefits along with many additions
to the customer family.
